HUNTER CHRISTIAN CHURCH
ABOUT US

Glad you are here on our site....

Are you be looking for a church family to join ? ...please make contact with us. The people who worship at Hunter Christian Church care for each other and genuinely desire to be a blessing to you and to the local community.

Hunter, as the church is affectionately known, conducts ministry and activities for children, youth, men and women. There are a number of small groups meeting in homes at different times during the week for ministry and fellowship.

Should you have personal needs requiring practical help, or if you are looking for Christian counsel, prayer ministry, or personal healing prayer, the ministry of this church is available for you.

Hunter is also involved in outreach ministries within Newcastle and around the globe. From time to time we conduct teaching ministry schools. The church is also linked with many other churches and Christian initiatives in prayer for Newcastle for the salvation of the city and the healing and unity of the Body of Christ in this community.

Our aim is to encourage every member of the church to receive and use the gifts of the Holy Spirit; to be trained and equipped in the proper use of these gifts; and to provide ministry opportunities under our oversight for their function and operation within the ministry of the church.

You will find out more about the ministries and activities of Hunter by arranging an interview with our pastoral staff so please feel free to call.

Look forward to meeting you in His love.

A Brief History

Hunter Christian Church (HCC) was birthed in 1981 in response to a vision given by God to a number of people in a local Uniting Church. The original name adopted by the group was “The Covenant Community Church of Jesus Christ”. The founding pastor was the Reverend Fred Warton and Pam Warton, who ministered from 1981 until 1987. During this time the church established itself and began to grow through such activities as Sunday worship, home fellowship groups and youth and children’s ministry.

In 1988 Tom Markotanyos took up the role of Senior Pastor. Shortly afterwards, the church changed its name to “Hunter Christian Community Church” as it was felt that this name was a simpler expression of the church’s ministry and location.

Between 1981 and 1991 the church worshipped in a number of venues including a function centre, schools and various church premises.  In 1991 our present property on two and a half acres at 20a Hillcrest Parade, Highfields was purchased (formerly Adamstown Heights Infants School). The existing school buildings were altered to provide a worship centre, office facilities and areas for children’s ministry. These buildings were extended and modified during 2003. During 2002 Plans were approved to further extend the seating capacity of the auditorium and add youth and children's facilities.

In 1997 Garry Fall and his wife Siv became Senior Pastor. It was during this time that the church name was further simplified to it's current "Hunter Christian Church". Pastor Garry ministered until September 2005. Over this period the church experienced continued growth, partnered in church planting, extended further into overseas missions and supported the establishment of the Newcastle Healing Rooms Inc, a multi-denominational ministry using the HCC premises.

In March 2007 Greg Campion and wife Amanda became Senior Pastor. They moved from the Central Coast with their 5 children and have led the church into further growth with many youth and young families calling HCC home. During 2011 the major extension and renovatiopn of the facility took place that was planned in 2002. Construction took six months and has been completed to now provide a Ministry Centre suitable for multiple functions with high quality sound and data projection in air-conditioned comfort. The Church is now reaching into the community through our local public school running many successful initiatives. Missions to the nations has also extended with many teams continually being sent to all over the world.

Late 2007 saw the church accepted as a member of the Crosslink Network. A nationwide  connection of like hearted churches under the leadership of Brian Medway of Grace Church Canberra.

Throughout its history , HCC has maintained an ongoing fellowship with a number of churches in the Newcastle area as part of our desire to foster unity within the Body of Christ as a whole and to build God’s kingdom in the area.

CORE VALUES

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe:

1. In the inspiration of the Scriptures as originally given, being without  error and the sole and final authority for all matters of belief and behaviour  (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119:105)

2. In the eternal Godhead (Trinity) who has revealed Himself as one God (Unity) existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; distinguishable yet indivisible  (Colossians 2:9, Deuteronomy 6:4,  Matthew 28:19).

3. That the Godhead is the creator of all things out of nothing; exercising sovereign control over, and preservation of all things    (Genesis 1:1, Psalm 104:30, Colossians 1:16, Nehemiah 9:6)

4. In the test, and fall through disobedience, of  Adam and Eve resulting in a sinful nature which has been passed on to all mankind (Genesis 3:1-24, 5:3, Psalm 51:5, Romans 5:12,18)

5. In man’s inability to attain to God’s righteousness through his own works  (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 5:18, 7:24-25)

6. In the Lord Jesus Christ, Saviour of mankind, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, being God and man (Matthew 1:18-21, John 1:1-2,14)

7. That Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day, and appeared to His disciples. (1 Corinthians 15:3-8)

8. In the bodily ascension of Jesus to heaven; His exaltation to the highest place of authority and power in creation; His bodily coming again the second time for His Church (Acts 1:9, 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17, John 14:2-3)

9. In the salvation of sinners by grace, through repentance and faith in the perfect and sufficient work of the cross, by which we obtain remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit .(Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 9:11-12)

10. In the necessity, for believers, of water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

11. In the threefold nature of God’s work in the life of the believer - regeneration (life), empowering (power),  and sanctification (holiness)    (John 3:3-8, Luke 24:49, 1 Thessalonians 5:23)

12. In believers bearing the fruit, and exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit  (Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

13. In the healing of spirit, soul and body by God’s power as a result of the work of Christ on the cross  (1 Peter 2:24)

14. In the Lord’s Supper (Communion) for believers  (1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Matthew 26:26-29)

15. In the reality and personality of and eternal punishment for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41,  Revelation 20:10)

16. In eternal life for believers and eternal death for unbelievers (Revelation 20:11-15)

17. That there is one true universal Church made up of those indwelt  by the Holy Spirit, and that this universal Church finds expression    in many local Churches which are under the sovereign headship of the Lord Jesus Christ. These local churches exercise autonomous government under Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:2, Colossians 1:18, Matthew 16:18).

18. That government (civil and religious) is ordained of God for our good, and it is required of all believers to be submitted to the government in every way possible consistent with our faith, as set forth in the Scriptures (Romans 13:1-7).
